According to a release from the Unites States Coast Guard, two of the men are FSM locals in their 40s. No details were available about the third man. All three men could be missing in the vicinity of Losap and Nama Islands, Chuuk, FSM.

The Coast Guard was notified on March 9, and have joined a Navy P-3 and local Chuukese crews in searching the waters surrounding Losap and Nama Islands for any sign of the swimmers.

A cargo ship has been volunteering in the search as of Tuesday, the Coast Guard reported yesterday. The ship is on standby to perform a pickup if the men are sighted.

The details of how the men went missing are still unclear. However, the U.S. Coast Guard said a report from the Search and Rescue Liaison in Chuuk, Toyo Mori, noted the men were returning home to Weno from the island of Losap.

The men reportedly experienced problems with their skiff's engine, and after taking on water from Sunday afternoon until Tuesday afternoon, the men decided to abandon their skiff and swim to the nearest shore.

Anyone with information about the missing men are encouraged to call the Coast Guard Sector Guam at 564-8724 or 355-4824.
