Phoenix Patriot Foundation Presents Purple Heart Patriots Challenge

San Diego, CA – Phoenix Patriot Foundation (PPF) in association with K38 Water Safety is proud to announce the Purple Heart Patriots Challenge. Military personnel who have received a Purple Heart in Iraq or Afghanistan are riding riding Kawasaki JET SKI® watercraft in a grueling trek through dynamic, unforgiving ocean conditions.

Saturday, November 19, 2011 — 6:00 am Launch

Distance:135 miles
Where:The Pacific Coast, San Pedro, California to the Naval Amphibious Base, Coronado

These Patriots will cover 135 miles through cold, rough Pacific Ocean conditions. Four greeting stations will be available for the public to show their support of these warriors as they operationally integrate post-combat injuries. Our hope is to provide a vehicle and means by which they can realize that their capabilities are not limited.

The Purple Heart Patriots Challenge is PPF's first-phase program utilizing riding Kawasaki JET SKI® watercraft to assist in rehabilitation, create a competitive mindset, and return to being comfortable in a new body transformed through combat injuries. Various military brethren will be riding alongside these Patriots—heroes united.

Dear Patriots,

I am excited to update you on the progress that Phoenix Patriot Foundation has achieved since our formation on July 14, 2010. Additionally, looking toward the future, we have some exciting programs coming up both near and long term. Finally, I would like to introduce the launch of our newsletter, which you will receive in the coming weeks.

What have we done? Since Phoenix Patriot Foundation was formed on July 14, 2010, we have received a tremendous outpouring of support and have made several significant advances, including visiting military medical facilities in San Diego, CA and Washington, D.C., meeting some amazing people. It is truly inspiring to see the spirit and resourcefulness of our recovering warriors, and we have learned so much about their needs and aspirations. Many have found themselves in situations that are still very new to them, and do not yet know what direction they want to take in life. We are truly motivated by them, and stand ready and willing to help however we can.

Our Ambassadors have made many strides in spreading the mission of Phoenix Patriot Foundation, raising over $20,000 and representing us at numerous events nationwide. We thank them for their hard work and dedication to our cause and very much appreciate their ongoing efforts. We know that we could not be where we are today without them.

So what exactly are we doing? We are rapidly progressing to the next phase, which is outreach and building rapport with our wounded heroes. In early November, we will travel with several wounded Marines from San Diego to Phoenix to attend the 2011 NASCAR Sprint Cup, and will be hosted by Michael Waltrip Racing. Also in November, we will launch the Purple Heart Patriots Challenge, consisting of Purple Heart recipients riding Kawasaki JET SKI watercraft in a grueling trek through dynamic unforgiving ocean waters. Additionally, we are planning to facilitate the climbing of Mount Kilimanjaro in 2014 by several of our wounded heroes. These events are multipurpose, and instill confidence in individuals who have experienced life-changing injuries.

Finally, I am excited to announce the launch of the Phoenix Patriot Foundation newsletter, THE SITREP. A SITREP is an acronym for Situation Report and is used in the military to keep everyone informed of unusual events. We will use THE SITREP to keep subscribers informed of what we have done, what we are doing and how to join in. Expect to receive THE SITREP periodically starting very soon.

I would like to thank all of you who have worked so hard in creating Phoenix Patriot Foundation. I ask for your continued dedication in helping our wounded heroes recover, reintegrate, and remain in service to our country. With your help and a relentless effort, we will help these heroes find their way to a boundless life in their new normal.

Sincerely,

Default Pastrana Waltrip Racing teams up with the Phoenix Patriot Foundation

PWR Teams Up With Phoenix Patriot Foundation at Phoenix

QUICK FACTS:

WHO:
Travis Pastrana

WHAT:
Phoenix Patriot Foundation

WHERE:
San Diego, California

WHEN:
10/31/2011

SAN DIEGO, Calif., - Pastrana Waltrip Racing is teaming with the Phoenix Patriot Foundation (PPF) to host a group of wounded veterans during next month’s NASCAR race weekend at Phoenix International Raceway.

PPF is a non-profit organization whose mission is to assist in the independent, life-long sustainability of wounded veterans and their reintegration into society.

Pastrana Waltrip Racing Co-Owner Blake Bechtel jumped at the opportunity to provide the wounded veterans with such a unique NASCAR experience.

“Even though Pastrana Waltrip Racing will not compete at Phoenix, I felt like this was an opportunity to show these guys a good time at the track and support PPF,” said Bechtel. “Pastrana Waltrip Racing and NASCAR is a great vehicle to promote awareness to the American public as well as cultivate unique experiences for our troops that were injured in Iraq and Afghanistan.”

While at the races the wounded veterans will meet with several NASCAR drivers, serve as honorary members of the No. 00 TUMS’s pit crew, and tour the NASCAR garage and team race haulers.

Jared Ogden, the founder of PPF, is a Navy SEAL and started the foundation after his teammate and friend lost both legs to an improvised explosive device.

“This is a lot more than a weekend trip to the track,” explains Ogden. “It is the first step to building trust with vets and identifying exactly what they want to do with the rest of their lives and how they want to continue their service. I am very appreciative of PWR and Blake (Bechtel) for creating this opportunity to allow our creative approach to once again find passion following injuries sustained in combat.”

With the support of Pastrana Waltrip Racing, PPF is providing this NASCAR experience with the hope it will aid in the continued healing process of the wounded veterans and help them find a renewed passion for life.

K38 Prepares for the Purple Heart Patriots Challenge

Orange County, CA-November 17, 2011

Mario Pinto, Shawn Alladio and Jonathan Hoover supporting the Purple Hearts Challenge

72 Hours: Today was our second day of K38 Shuffle. Mario Pinto who is a Captain in the Portuguese Navy and operates K38 Portugal and I skitted into action early in the morning. Mario washed all the gear, the K38 Training boats and organized the equipment from the Los Angeles Port Police training we completed yesterday. Now the boats are near ready for the awareness ride on behalf of the Phoenix Patriot Foundation. Tomorrow on the 18th we begin or orientation with the Purple Hearts in San Pedro!

The Men-The Ride: The group of five or six young men who will be making this ride will be accompanied, coached, and encouraged by PPF personnel as well as the experienced staff of K38 Water Safety throughout the trip. Intermediate stops for fueling and rest will be made at Dana Point, at Dana Point Jet Ski & Kayak Center, 34671 Puerto Place, Dana Point, between 9:15 and 10:30 AM and in Oceanside at the boat ramp,1299 N Pacific St. between 1:15 and 2:00 PM The ride concludes at the Coronado Community,1834 Strand Way, Coronado approximately 5 PM. A fundraiser will be held at 7:00pm at The Local in Downtown San Diego’s Gaslamp District with a $10 promotional. Ride times are approximate.

Our Team: Liquid Militia is getting the PR kits and gift bags sorted, and finalizing the branding for the Kawasaki JET SKI® watercraft. The American Watercraft Association (AWA) sanctioned Socal Watercraft Club and PWCoffshore.com members are the primary workhorse behind the logistics of this ride, proving the spirit of volunteerism is the best way to open up the Thanksgiving Week. Brian Largarticha is doing just about everything. Kroll is en route. Cress is reading the 2012 Kawasaki display, Pirate is ready-set-go. Russell is on an organized standby and Mark is making veteran stickers, and we’re all ready for the transit! Well, almost, just a few more shuffles later…

Kawasaki’s Everywhere! Today Mario and I arrived at Kawasaki Motors Corporation and gathered up 4 Kawasaki JET SKI® for the ride. We now have a total of 8 we are preparing. It was a busy afternoon. We’re spending a lot of time going over each JET SKI® and preparing all the PPE (personal protective equipment) and logistics for the ride and the gear. 5 trucks and 5 trailers will be on the road, plus 2 additional trucks and trailers for their support boats. Thank you Trident Outdoor Adventures.

What Sleep? The gauntlet has been thrown and it’s full throttle with this stable of vehicles and vessels. We’re looking forward to meeting the supporters of our nation’s combat wounded, the additional staff, the fans and the folks that make the PWC community such a fun place to be. We hope to see you at one of the four ‘meet and greet’ PPF stops!
