Midlands Scrapyard Fire: Residents Urged to Stay Indoors
A fire at a scrapyard in Kingswinford, West Midlands, has residents on high alert. The West Midlands Fire Service was alerted to the blaze at around 7:00 am on January 29th, involving an estimated 100 tonnes of scrap metal and domestic appliances. The fire has since spread, and thick, black smoke can be seen rising from the site.
Firefighters are working tirelessly to contain the blaze, and the fire service has issued a warning to residents in affected areas to keep their windows and doors closed as a precaution. No injuries have been reported, but the fire service has advised people to avoid the area if possible.
The fire service has confirmed that seven fire engines responded to the incident at around 7:40 am, and additional resources have been called in to support the operation. Site staff are collaborating with fire crews, using on-site machinery to move metal and create fire breaks. Despite these efforts, the fire continues to burn, and the smoke is affecting nearby areas.
